McMaster Redesignated a PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre
McMaster School of Nursing has received redesignation as a Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Collaborating Centre in Primary Care Nursing and Health Human Resources for four more years (2015-2019).
A PAHO/WHO CC since 1992, the Centre at McMaster works collaboratively with faculty across disciplines at McMaster, and in coordination with the Global Network of Collaborating Centres for Nursing and Midwifery.
Dr. Andrea Baumann, Associate VP, Global Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, has been Centre Director since its inception. Baumann is also Scientific Director of the McMaster site of the Nursing Health Services Research Unit (NHSRU). Deputy Director Dr. Ruta Valaitis is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing and the Dorothy Hall Chair in Primary Health Care Nursing.
The redesignation follows the recent PAHO/WHO summit, Universal Access to Health and Universal Health Coverage: Advanced Practice Nursing Summit, which was hosted at McMaster from April 15-17, 2015. The event welcomed nurses and health professionals from across Latin and Central America.
PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centres are designated by the Director-General, WHO, as part of an inter-institutional collaborative network of centers worldwide. They are established to provide concrete activities at the national, regional, and global levels, in support of the strategic plans of specific WHO areas of work.
