Higher Education in Global Health Policy: McMaster Partners with Buskerud & Vestfold University College
McMaster University and Buskerud & Vestfold University College (HBV) partnered to submit a four-year grant to the High North Fund, managed by the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education (SIU). The grant, submitted today (November 5), outlines our collaboration in creating a joint Norwegian and Canadian global health course that addresses health policy issues of the High North.
With this course, we aim to meet the needs of a global healthcare workforce that requires essential tools for critically assessing problems in global health policy from an international, national and community perspective.
The new course will be complementary to McMaster’s existing MSc Global Health, which is delivered through an established network of partner universities (Maastricht University in the Netherlands and Manipal University in India). Unique in its mode of delivery, educational content, and practical applicability, the MSc Global Health employs innovative teaching and learning methods. Students collaborate in virtual transcontinental learning pods and build relationships with peers and tutors across different locations, cultures and backgrounds.
These new methods of teaching, learning and working are rapidly evolving with increased globalization, and have strengthened the quality of, and increased the demand for, distance education in higher learning. This partnership with HBV will allow us to continue to meet this demand, and the fund will increase mobility, enabling both student and faculty exchanges between the two universities.
