Ben McIsaac is a data analyst and statistician for the Global Emergency Care Collaborative (GECC), an NGO that improves access to quality emergency care in the developing world by collaborating with local and national organizations to educate health professionals in Emergency Medicine.

 

After graduating from the MSc Global Health in 2014, McIsaac moved to Rukingiri, Uganda, where he was hired by GECC as Program Director. His work has involved directing and overseeing research, ensuring quality project management, and liaising with emergency medical experts at the organization’s headquarters in Boston.

 

Representing the GECC at the local and national level, McIsaac has met with the Uganda ministry of health, and internationally with key stakeholders, government representatives and global partners.

 

“This international opportunity and professional experience would not have been possible without the skills and perspective I gained through McMaster’s Global Health program,” McIsaac explains. “The symposium in Manipal, for example, framed my ability to interpret complex situations and engineer novel solutions that improve health equity in low resource settings,” he says.

 

Now, back in Canada, he continues to apply key learning from the GH program experience. Participating in numerous presentations, conferences, and field symposiums, he also facilitates knowledge translation to support the GECC in addressing the lack of acute emergency care across the world.
