Expanding Horizons: McMaster Students in the Netherlands
At the beginning of the winter term in January, 14 McMaster students travelled to the Netherlands to spend a semester at Maastricht University, our partner in the collaborative Master of Science in Global Health program.
The exchange offers a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a different culture and work face-to-face with their Dutch peers.
Here are some McMaster students’ highlights from the experience so far:
My favourite part of the exchange so far has been the opportunity to work with students from all over the world. This has meant that, in addition to the incredible courses Maastricht University offers, I have also had firsthand experience with different perspectives and ideas on healthcare – a true reflection of global health and the best gift the program could give me.

I’m reaping the benefits of studying in a comfortable environment under a supportive faculty. Choosing the Innovations track helped me gain a practicum with other young professionals engaged in social innovation programs in Kenya. It’s been a wonderful experience bridging relationships with peers and gaining some perspective from within the EU alongside using Maastricht as a launching pad to explore other countries in Europe.

Studying at Maastricht University has been an amazing experience, in many different ways. One of my favourite moments from this semester has been the carnival parade. Seeing the spirit of the city and being a part of their holiday tradition was an exciting experience!
