Bridging Different Worlds, Day 5: Preparation Day
Friday was preparation day. On Friday morning, there was an optional excursion to two Jain temples, in order to learn more about Indian culture – specifically, Jainism. The first Jain temple was on a beautiful hillside, over- looking the luscious palm tree jungle and Ca- turmukha basadi. It was home to the Karkala Gomateshwara Bahubali Statue. The courtyard and statue were both very simple, and the statue itself was a tall, imposing structure, the second tallest of Gomateshwara in Karnataka state.
The second temple Saavira Kambada Basadi or the thousand-pillared temple, so-called because of the thousand pillars that make up its entire structure. The temple was in a town, but the inner buildings were quiet, cool and free from urban interruptions.
