Associate V-P Global Health Andrea Baumann Inducted into American Academy of Nursing
Dr. Andrea Baumann, Associate V-P Global Health at McMaster University, is one of 163 nurse leaders who were inducted into the American Academy of Nursing this week.
Baumann was honoured as an Academy fellow at the American Academy of Nursing: 2015 Transforming Health, Driving Policy Conference, which took place from October 15-17, 2015, in Washington, D.C.
The Academy fellows, with the addition of this newest class, represent all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 24 countries, and each fellow has made significant contributions to nursing and health care.
“We are pleased to welcome this talented class of clinicians, researchers, policy leaders, educators and executives as they join the nation’s thought leaders in nursing and health care,” said Academy President, Diana J. Mason.
In addition to her role as V-P Global Health, Baumann is Scientific Director of the Nursing Health Services Research Unit (NHSRU), McMaster site, and Centre Director of the Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Collaborating Centre at McMaster University.
She is a pioneering nurse researcher whose work emphasizes the critical link between evidence, policy, and practice. Throughout her career, Baumann has received continuous funding to generate and synthesize knowledge about the nursing workforce, both nationally and internationally, and her work has been used to shape policies and practices in Ontario.
“I am honoured to serve the Academy,” says Baumann. “I look forward to participating on expert panels focusing on issues that have been at the heart of my work: cultural competence and health equity, global nursing and health and quality care.”
