India Learning Symposium Kicks off in Manipal for Global Health Students
Students from McMaster’s MSc Global Health program arrived in Manipal, India, this week, kicking off an intense two-week global health learning symposium designed to simulate a real-world international summit.
Each year, students from all three partner universities – McMaster, Maastricht and Manipal – are required to participate in the immersive experience, and connect in person with the peers they have been working with in virtual teams.
“I’m so thankful for this symposium because it’s an opportunity to consolidate everything we’ve learned,” says student Erick Carreras. “But most importantly, it’s about the connections – we get to share this experience with the people who’ve made a huge impact on our lives for the last eight months.”
The symposium, aptly titled “Bridging Different Worlds” offers the opportunity to put into practice some of the theoretical skills learned in the program, including cross-cultural intuition, and incisive decision-making in complex environments – skills that will become critical to graduates in the global health working world.
