Meet our 2021-2022 Student Ambassadors
The Graduate Student Ambassador Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) is a collective of student representatives whose mission is to connect with prospective students, advocate for current students, and make connections with alumni. By doing so, this group serves to liaise between various groups associated with FHS at McMaster University and foster strong connections and networks over time.
Every year, the MSc Global Health program, which is a 12-month multi-institutional and transdisciplinary program, elects two students to be a part of this dynamic team of student representatives.
- Global Health student ambassador, Amanda Tabe, completed her undergrad in Life Sciences at Queen’s University this past spring. She was inspired to apply to the program after her experience taking a couple of global health courses in her final year as an undergrad. Interested in researching Indigenous health and inequities in Canada, she is looking examine existing, new, and re-emerging diseases through the lens of global health. For the winter term, Amanda has enrolled in the Global Health: Disease Burden, Challenges and Changes concentration and hopes to focus on global health challenges from a health sciences’ perspective. Amanda reflects that “learning alongside like-minded individuals across Canada and the world has been unique and enlightening experience”
Her co-ambassador and classmate Yashvi Verma shares a similar sentiment remarking, “I have had an incredible experience so far engaging and collaborating with the diverse cohort of students and faculty locally at McMaster and with the international partner universities”. Completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Human and Molecular Biology from the University of Toronto, Yashvi had the opportunity to take an elective course in health studies and volunteer for non-profit organizations. This encouraged her to pursue further education to broaden her knowledge and understanding of topics in global health and health sciences. For the upcoming winter term, Yashvi is considering either the mobility exchange program at Maastricht University or the Globalization and Equity concentration offered at McMaster University.
