Annual Global Health Advisory Board Meeting to Discuss Imminent Global Health Issues
Tomorrow, October 24, we will be hosting our Global Health Advisory Board meeting to discuss directions and strategies for the MSc Global Health, our unique, collaborative and transnational program with Maastricht University in the Netherlands, and Manipal University in India.
Today and tomorrow, we look forward to welcoming and hosting our board members from all over the world:
Priscilla Reddy, from South Africa, is Director of the Medical Research Council’s Health Promotion Research and Development Unit. Published widely in international journals, her research has covered a range of topics, from the determinants of behaviour of young people to the health education behaviour of nurses in primary health care settings.
Mary Heersink, from the United States, is an internationally known food safety advocate and founder ofS.T.O.P. (STOP Foodborne Illness), a national grassroots public health organization dedicated to preventing illness and death from foodborne pathogens.
Elizabeth Witmer (Chair of the Board), from Canada, is Chair of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). The longest serving female MPP in Ontario’s history, she has 32 years of public service experience.
Dr. Luis Barreto, also from Canada, is President of Luis Barreto & Associates, a consultancy focusing on vaccine development, immunization, science policy, global health and biotechnology. He is former Vice-President, Immunisation and Science Policy for Sanofi Pasteur, where he held a number of other senior management positions for over 23 years.
We are also pleased to welcome special guest, His Excellency Ambassador Cees Kole from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Also in attendance will be Dr. Patrick Deane, McMaster University President & Vice Chancellor, Dr. John Kelton, Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster, and faculty from Maastricht, Manipal and McMaster universities.
The board meets annually to discuss imminent global health issues. Advisory Board member and March of Dimes recipient 2014 Dr. Luis Barreto will be presenting on “Emerging Infectious Diseases” following the presentation of McMaster president and vice chancellor Dr. Patrick Deane on Internationalization of Higher Education.
