Looking Ahead to 2015
With the holidays and the New Year fast approaching, the GH Office looks forward to a series of important events and activities as we close this year and welcome 2015.
We have recently released the International Compendium 2014, highlighting the projects, partnerships and places McMaster is having a global impact. We are involved with projects in over 130 countries, exceeding over 1250 partnerships. With this edition of the Compendium, we showcase examples of university leadership and our contribution to internationalization.
In January, as the Master of Science in Global Health program enters the winter term, we will welcome 9 incoming exchange students from Maastricht University, while 14 of our students will go on exchange to Maastricht. This is an exciting term for students as they also have the opportunity to specialize in one of the program’s three fields of interest.
On January 14, our Global Health Speaker Series continues, with a talk from Dr. Lisa Schwartz, from McMaster, and Dr. Ross Upshur, from the University of Toronto. And on January 23, we look forward to the first event in the Global Health Learning Series, run by students for students. The exhibition’s aim is to fundraise for Médecins Sans Frontières’ efforts to fight Ebola, while highlighting some alumni experiences of GH issues, both in Canada and abroad.
We are also busy planning the Chanchlani Research Award and Lecture, our annual event to recognize a leading scholar in the area of Global Health, which will take place on February 25. In September, we were deeply saddened by the passing of Vasu Chanchlani, who founded the Chanchlani Research Centre in 2012 with his wife, Dr. Jayshree Chanchlani.
Each year, the GH Office hosts international delegations and visiting scholars from around the world. Next year will be no different. From March 15-22, we will welcome a delegation of students from the Graduate School of Health Sciences at Niigata University for their Canada Study Tour.
Please stay tuned for updates from the GH Office, but in the meantime here’s to a joyful holiday season and all the best for 2015!
