GHO to Host International Delegations & Visiting Scholars
It has been a busy couple of months for the Global Health Office. We have been working on a number of international grants and contract submissions, exploring opportunities with key partners across the globe, and preparing for international visitors.
The GHO fosters international relationships by engaging health care researchers, educators and professionals in ongoing dialogue. We welcome visitors from around the world to share our expertise and exchange ideas. We also work in task forces and delegations to meet with experts and learn from best practices and recent advances in health care research and education abroad.
From March 15-22, 2015, we will host a delegation of faculty and students in nursing and laboratory science from Niigata University, Japan. With financial support provided by Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), the visit fosters continued academic exchange between McMaster and Niigata.
In coordination with the School of Nursing, the GHO plans to host two faculty members from Buskerud & Vestfold University College (HBV) in May 2015. Meetings will focus on advanced clinical master’s programs, problem-based learning (PBL), and issues related to clinical practice. We recently partnered with HBV to submit a four-year grant to the High North Fund, managed by the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education (SIU), to create a joint global health course to complement the MSc in Global Health program.
Also planned for spring 2015 is a visit from a University of Edinburgh faculty member, who will come to McMaster to discuss PBL in medical education – an approach that institutions throughout the world continue to adopt since McMaster introduced it in 1969. We are in the process of coordinating meetings with faculty involved in education planning/design, assessment, facilitation, and research.
