McMaster PAHO/WHO CC Deputy Director, Ruta Valaitis, at PAHO summit.
Speakers’ presentations from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Universal Access to Health and Universal Health Coverage: Advanced Practice Nursing Summit are now available to view.
From April 15-17, McMaster hosted 30 nurses and health professionals from across Latin and Central America for the summit, which generated discussion around the role of the advanced practice nurse (APN) in the Americas. The aim is ultimately to broaden the scope of nursing practice in Primary Health Care (PHC) in this region to include APNs.
Currently, unlike in the US and Canada, there is little evidence of APN education, practice and regulation in Central and South American countries.
Speakers’ presentations ranged from an exploration of nursing practice, regulation and education in specific regions, including Spain and the Caribbean, to a look at advanced practice nursing in the United States and Canada, where there is an established regulatory framework.
All of the speaker presentations from the summit are now available to download. Please click on a presentation to view it.
