Global Health Speaker Series Recap – Regine Aalders on the Dutch Health Care System
The Global Health Office was delighted to welcome Ms. Regine Aalders – Counselor for Health, Welfare and Sport, The Royal Netherlands Embassy in the US and Canada – on November 18, for the Global Health Speaker Series.
Each year, the GHO hosts a lecture series that invites experts from all over the world to discuss the most current and pressing issues in global health.
In her presentation, “The Dutch Health Care System: Adaptivity to Innovation”, Ms. Aalders explored what has been called the “best health system” in Europe, drawing on her experience working in economic diplomacy.
From highlighting the roles and responsibilities of key players within the system, to providing an overview of the Netherlands’ health reforms and examining sustainable health insurance, Ms. Aalders delivered an engaging and informative lecture.
MSc Global Health program student Aviva Elman, who attended the lecture, said: “I specifically enjoyed the lively discussion Ms. Aalders led regarding heath care facilities, funding, the integration of sport, and the emphasis on leading a healthy lifestyle in the Netherlands. As our Global Health program is partnered with Maastricht University, I think it’s important for us to gain a better understanding of the Dutch healthcare system and its differences, and I appreciate the perspective Ms. Aalders was able to bring to us here at McMaster.”
