Championing Internationalization in Higher Education: His Excellency Cees Kole, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Canada, and McMaster University President, Dr. Patrick Deane
The Global Health Office was delighted to host His Excellency Cees Kole, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Canada, at McMaster University on January 25, 2016, to deliver a presentation on Internationalization in Higher Education.
The talk was part of the annual Global Health Speaker Series, which invites preeminent experts from all over the world to speak at McMaster about issues related to global health.
McMaster University President, Dr. Patrick Deane, announced Ambassador Kole’s talk, which explored the issues involved in internationalizing higher education and the importance of strong educational and multidimensional partnerships.
In terms of international education specifically, Ambassador Kole addressed the need to design the future of global health using a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, and a connection between research, industry and policy.
Attendees included previous Global Health Speaker Series lecturer Ms.Regine Aalders, Counselor for Health, Welfare and Sport for The Royal Netherlands Embassy in the US and Canada, as well as Global Health program students from McMaster and exchange students from Maastricht.
Following the talk, Ambassador Kole and Dr. Deane conducted a Q&A session with participants.
Since he was appointed President and Vice-Chancellor in 2010, Dr. Deane has been focused on promoting and supporting research, strengthening the connections between the University and the local and global communities that we serve and ensuring a distinctive, personalized and engaging experience for McMaster’s students.
Dr. Deane’s Forward With Integrity initiative outlines a number of measures the University is taking to enhance international activities and incorporate global perspectives.
The Global Health Office continues to forge ties with the Netherlands, beyond our joint Master of Science in Global Health program with Maastricht University, as building and nurturing these international relationships is critical to addressing global health issues and educating future leaders.
