At the end of May, 26 professors from Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health (MPH) arrived at McMaster for the 10th International Interdisciplinary Summer Institute, hosted by the Global Health Office from May 28 – June 11, 2016.

 

The Institute is an educational event that provides faculty from around the world with an opportunity to exchange ideas, experience problem-based learning (PBL) in action, and learn first hand what makes McMaster’s health sciences curriculum stand out.

 

Participant Sarinya Polsingchan said, “The PBL training course has given us hands-on experience, which has provided greater insight into the process. We look forward to applying PBL in teaching nursing students in Thailand.”

 

The 2016 program provided the group, who came from Praboromarajchanok Institute for Health Workforce Development (PIHWD), with a comprehensive overview of McMaster’s innovative nursing and health sciences curriculum.

 

Since the first International Interdisciplinary Summer Institute seven years ago, the GHO has welcomed participants from 24 institutions across 16 countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, South Korea, Portugal, South Africa, Brazil and Denmark. Most participants are educators involved in curriculum and educational planning and represent a range of disciplines including medicine, nursing, pharmaceutical science, scientific journalism and midwifery.

 

“Having hosted PIHWD in 2007 and 2014, we were delighted to welcome this group of professors for the 2016 program. The Summer Institute is about collaboration, information sharing, creating global connections, and influencing research and action – and this year has been another success,” says Andrea Baumann, associate
