Orientation Week Preps Global Health Students for the Year Ahead
This year’s orientation week ran from September 6-9, as incoming 2016-2017 MSc Global Health students got to meet each other, connect with faculty and staff, and learn what the next 12 months have in store.
The official program welcome kicked off on Tuesday September 6 with a curriculum orientation and a review of the global health concentrations, followed by a grad event.
The rest of the week followed with the students’ first lecture – streamed live to allow for collaboration with Maastricht University in the Netherlands – and technology training to prepare students to work within virtual transcontinental teams with peers from Maastricht and Manipal.
Breakout sessions followed, covering a health sciences library tour and an overview of the Manipal Global Health Symposium.
The week wrapped up with the program’s orientation week tradition – a canoe trip down the Grand River.
“It has been a busy week as we’ve had a lot of material to cover. This is an intense 12-month program and we look forward to another successful year ahead,” said Andrea Baumann, Associate V-P Global Health and director of the Global Health program.
