The Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research Connects Universities Across Canada
Representatives from global health programs across Canada met in Vancouver yesterday to discuss internationalization, global health research, and transdisciplinary research collaboration.
The group – all members of the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research (CCGHR) – gathered for this year’s University Advisory Council (UAC) workshop. A non-profit organization, the CCGHR promotes better and more equitable health worldwide through the production and use of knowledge that connects people, ideas and expertise.
“Workshops like this are important because they’re about knowledge-sharing and networking, and looking at ways in which we can work together more effectively,” says Andrea Baumann, Associate Vice-President, Global Health, and director of the MSc Global Health program. “As an institutional member of the UAC, McMaster recognizes that global health is a shared responsibility.”
One of the main items on the workshop’s agenda focused on the role of mentorship in facilitating the career development of the ‘next generation’ of global health researchers in Canada. On that topic, Baumann emphasizes not only the importance of creating connections between instutitions and disciplines, but between alumni and students. “We have recently hosted a series of events at McMaster designed to encourage networking and mentorship, because we recognize that our alumni are valuable resources for those about to enter the global workforce.”
Stay tuned for upcoming events from the Global Health Office.
