Upcoming Talk, March 30: Dr. Karen Trollope-Kumar – Voices from the Himalayas: Exploring Global Health through Narrative

Karen Trollope-Kumar, Associate Clinical Professor of Family Medicine, with a PhD in medical anthropology from McMaster, will read excerpts from her award-winning memoir, Cloud Messenger, at the Global Health Speaker Series on March 30.

For over 10 years, Trollope-Kumar and her husband, Dr. Pradeep Kumar, lived and worked in the Himalayan foothills of north India, where they continue to maintain close ties. Her book, which has won a Canada Book Award and a Letter of Distinction from Humber College, illustrates some of the joys and challenges of health work in a remote part of the world. Using the reflective art of narrative, she also explores her own development as a physician and anthropologist.

Trollope-Kumar is currently collaborating with several Indian medical colleges to strengthen curriculum in areas of communication skills, ethics and professionalism.
