Coming and Going: Winter Term Exchanges
As the Global Health program closes the fall term and enters the winter term, McMaster will welcome twenty exchange students from Maastricht University, while eleven McMaster students will spend a term in Maastricht, the Netherlands. And, as a result of McMaster’s ongoing collaboration with University College of Southeast Norway (USN), five McMaster students will spend their term in Norway.
The winter term of the program is an exciting time as it offers students an opportunity to travel abroad and meet peers they have been working with in online transcontinental learning pods since September. In addition, McMaster and Maastricht universities offer different areas of concentration, allowing students to specialize in a particular field of global health.
Maastricht student Eva van Bergen Henegouw is looking forward to studying abroad for the first time. “I can’t wait to meet the McMaster students and gain firsthand insights into Canadian student life,” she says.
Van Bergen Henegouw hopes to eventually pursue a thesis focusing on oceans and human health, which is increasingly becoming a global healtjh priority in Europe and North America. The courses on offer at Mac – especially the geography courses – are what drew her to the exchange.
Andrea Baumann, Associate V-P, Global Health, and director of the MSc Global Health program says “We’re thrilled to be welcoming so many students from Maastricht this year. With the program’s continued expansion, we’re now sending our students to the Netherlands and Norway, and we hope to offer more exchange opportunities in the future.”
The growing Global Health program now includes the founding partners (McMaster and Maastricht universities) as well as Manipal University (India), Thammasat University (Thailand), University College of Southeast Norway (Norway), Ahfad University for Women (Sudan) and Universidad del Rosario (Colombia).
