Dr. Lynda Redwood Campbell Receives 2018 OMA Presidential Award
McMaster University’s Dr. Lynda Redwood-Campbell was recently awarded the 2018 Ontario Medical Association (OMA) Presidential Award.
This award, presented to a member of the Association, recognizes exceptional and long-standing humanitarian service to the greater community, in Ontario or elsewhere, that brings honour to the medical profession.
Redwood-Campbell has been involved with the MSc Global Health program since its inception and over her long career has been dedicated to humanitarian action, gender equity, and disaster response. She lives and breathes global health – she teaches it, is widely published in this area, and actively responds to humanitarian crises all over the world.
In 2005, Redwood-Campbell was part of the International Red Cross response to the tsunami in Indonesia, and since then has travelled to Haiti twice (post-earthquake and post-hurricane), the Philippines, and Nepal to provide on the ground medical assistance to those in need. But her involvement extends to the societal level, helping to resurrect public health infrastructure and coordinate primary care.
Showing an ongoing commitment to the Besrour Centre at the College of Family Physicians of Canada, which fosters collaboration to advance family medicine around the world, Redwood-Campell is also involved in working with Ontario students as part of the International Children and Women’s planning group. She also has a long-term commitment to the Canadian and International Red Cross in terms of policy development and training.
To top this off, she has been a committed family physician to her patients, and an outstanding preceptor to her family medicine residents and medical students for the 25 years she has been with the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University.
