MacGLOBAS Fall Newsletter: Updates and Upcoming Events
MacGLOBAS is a newly formed collaboration between the departments of Anesthesia, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Surgery, and the Global Health Office at McMaster University.
The aim of MacGLOBAS is to bring together faculty and residents to promote the group’s activities and partnerships, recognize and inspire volunteer service by faculty and trainees, develop educational resources for those interested in global surgical care, and generate innovative interdisciplinary research.
In the spring, MacGLOBAS hosted its second annual Joint Grand Rounds, hosted with the Department of Surgery, kicking off the official launch of MacGLOBAS.
At the grand rounds, Dr. Martin Situma, a visiting pediatric surgeon from Western Uganda, spoke about Mbarara Referral Hospital’s collaboration with McMaster on a trauma registry. And Dr. Caitlin VanDeCapelle, Anesthesia PGY5, provided a Canadian resident’s perspective, speaking about her experience working in Uganda through St. Joseph’s International Outreach Program.
